  1. Most definitely. The stupid pickup and suv's will finally stop cluttering up the highways.

  2. Yes, maybe people will wake up and toss the bums out of the House and Senate.  The have been "working on" this problem for 35 years and now it has finally caught up with them.  Read this weeks "Wall Street Journal" for a very good article on the subject.

  3. Maybe the government will finally be motivated to build a good public transit system.

    Also less smog.

  4. You bet. Alternative solutions are finallly on the table. the rise of fuel will lead to its own demise.

If we'd added a $4.00 tax per gallon a while ago, there would be less pollution, better transportation technology, and less global warming.

there wouldn't be yearly transfer of hundreds of billions of dollars to US-Hating countries like those in the middle east and Venezuela, Russia, etc.

  5. Good is already happening, people are driving less, walking more, riding bicycles more, AND getting rid of the gas guzzling SUVs and trucks in exchange for better mileage small cars that are better on the environment.

  6. Ha, ha you make me laugh with the drive by comment, even though it's not really funny of course. No, there is nothing good coming out of the prices. People are not able to vacation, have to choose between food and gas and are losing their businesses or trucking jobs as they are unable to afford fuel. If you think making oil executives filthy rich is a positive thing, well then you could count that, and I think we all agree that they have enough money.

  7. The Rich are getting richer so it's good for them.  If it's just gas that's killing you, you should feel lucky.  It's only another 50 - 100 bucks more for gas compared to a year ago.  Think about all the little mom and pop places that are losing thousands or even going out of business because people are staying home on day's off and no one is eating out.  More small businesses are shutting down than ever.  I feel sorry for them.

  8. bank robbers will be more easily caught because they'll be on foot, not in a getaway car

  9. Unfortunately, peddling crack and robbing people is quite lucrative and the typical drive-by shooter is not strapped for gas money (pun intended). Sadder still is the fact that many police departments are cutting patrols, if only by a little, to save themselves from dwindling fuel funds that were budgeted for when fuel was much cheaper (like, last year!! unbelievable, eh?). Soooo, it appears that drive-by's may actually increase... d**n! I'm such a pessimist!

    How about some good news:

Maybe my fellow Americans, a group that can be described in both flattering and derogatory ways, will take a greater interest in public policy makers (currently, mostly, lawyers and corporate pilferers) and how they've managed to usurp power and allow all sorts of tyranny to thrive here. Maybe we will ALL realize that, although the President is ultimately a cog in the "checks and balances" system and is placed in office by an electoral college, Senators and Representatives are elected directly by voting citizens. Yea, though your vote maybe in vain for a Presidential election, it is NOT, and never has been, in a Congressional election (is there such a term???). Use your voting power to change the landscape in the Senate and House! Use the power and authority of your citizenship to run for office!! Turn your head and your a** will follow!!

The question was funny... I hope this answer is not a bummer. I have been to many, many other countries and have seen, from those perspectives, that apathetic Americans are truly a disappointment to the WHOLE world; even our enemies echo this sentiment. Maybe gas priceswill finally be the unwelcomed catalyst to real and TRUE CHANGE in this great and beautiful country.   (also... to h**l with Democrats and Republicans, alike; they both suck a**.) and learn about the FAIR TAX thing... it's really quite interesting.   preachy 'cause I'm a little drunk... sorry.   *hic*

  10. With any luck the prices in America will continue to rise and may hopefully at some stage reach the level of the UK currently at about $11 a gallon.

Then perhaps you may take some notice of the rest of the worlds situation instead of only concerning yourselves with America.

Your thirst for Oil has fuelled conflict wars and terrorism and its about time you began to pay the price for that.

  11. More money will be invested into alternative energy research and people will begin conserving more of the earth's natural resources, realizing that the supply is indeed finite, as the rational among us have always taken seriously.

Should have been done 50 years ago, but back then, being "green" was too expensive to be convenient to much of America's consumer-hungry population. The costs of living associated with rising fuel prices has brought eco-friendly behavior to the point where it's not much more expensive than living wastefully, and is in many cases cheaper.
