Question:

Can anything reflect off a gas particle?

About the states of matter, there are the solids, liquids, gases, plasmas, Bose-Einstein condensates, and others...

Gas particles move about freely. They have no definite shape or volume. They can be compressed or expanded greatly to match the shape of its container.

If light could reflect off a solid, could light reflect off a gas particle?

Can anything else reflect off a gas particle?

  1. By gas particle, i assume you mean molecule.

Yes, many things can "reflect" off a gas molecule.

Other gas molecules "reflect" off gas molecules and that is the nature of a gas.  In fact that is very important to the ideal gas relation PV=nRT.

Also, you could have elastic collisions between all types of radiation and the nucleus of atoms that make up the molecule.

The best answer to your question is that yes, anything of similar or less mass than the gas molecules can have elastic collisions with the gas, effectively "reflecting".

  2. well, do you see gases sometimes? such as CO2 coming from a car exhaust? of course you do, so they are visible, and therefore light rebonds off them. Gas particles are bouncing off you right now. Without them, we wouldnt feel gravity. they can bounce off anything which is also composed of particles.
