Can anything serious happen if you dont treat take your medicine?

LIke, the 3 diagnoses my doctors have had is schizophrenia, bipolar psychosis, and schizo-affective, to which they arent even sure about. they stress how it is very serious though if not treated, but didnt go in to depth of what could happen if i dont treat them. Since they dpont have a clear answer to what i have, i dont want to take the meds. and also because they make me sleep all day long. What will happen if i continue to not take the medicine? im only 18 by the way

If you continue not taking your medication, your symptoms could possibly get worse and you won't feel well mentally.  If your medications make you sleep all day long, you need to call and tell your doctor and let him know.  Either that, or look into finding a new psychiatrist and/or psychologist.

Yes, it is VERY important that you take your medication. One-third of schizophrenics that live in the United States live on the streets because of their condition, or because they don't have money to afford medication to get better. If you don't take your medication, you might not understand the difference between what's reality, and what's in your head, it could really mess things up for you.

Hi Gabe,

You should never go off your meds without being weaned off of them by a doctor. It can cause you more problems then when you started taking them.

Being just 18 it is very common to get different dx. What I think your doctors are trying to do is treat the symptoms. All of those dx that you stated are treated with those meds.

I do understand how AP an AD with Ativan and Xanax is kind of a over kill. I would ask to stop the Ativan that stuff is very addicting, so is Xanax. Be very careful.

What I might suggest is talking to only one doctor and only letting one doctor prescribe your meds. They seem to have you on the road to overdose. Tell him that the meds are to much. That you can't function. They will ask if your symptoms have subsided. Then go from there. I think it's very important to stay in contact with your pdoc. Always let them know if you are haveing troubles. A lot of finding the right cocktail is trial and error.

You need to be the voice that tells them.

You did not state your currently prescribed medication regime, and wouldn't be on them all.

"What is the most important information I should know about paliperidone?

Paliperidone is not for use in psychotic conditions that are related to dementia. Paliperidone has caused fatal heart attack and stroke in older adults with dementia-related conditions. While you are taking paliperidone, you may be more sensitive to temperature extremes such as very hot or cold conditions. Avoid getting too cold, or becoming overheated or dehydrated. Drink plenty of fluids, especially in hot weather and during exercise. It is easier to become dangerously overheated and dehydrated while you are taking paliperidone. Paliperidone can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert.

Avoid using other medicines that make you sleepy (such as cold medicine, pain medication, muscle relaxers, and medicine for seizures, depression or anxiety). They can add to sleepiness caused by paliperidone.

Avoid drinking alcohol. It can increase some of the side effects of paliperidone. Stop using paliperidone and call your doctor at once if you have fever, stiff muscles, confusion, sweating, fast or uneven heartbeats, restless muscle movements in your face or neck, tremor (uncontrolled shaking), trouble swallowing, feeling light-headed, or fainting.

There may be other drugs that can affect paliperidone. Tell your doctor about all the prescription and over-the-counter medications you use. This includes vitamins, minerals, herbal products, and drugs prescribed by other doctors. Do not start using a new medication without telling your doctor."

There are quizzes via sections 1, or 10 on these, and you could do them and decide which seems more likely, and adopt the alternative treatments, for 6 months, to see if they are sufficient, or if you need a little extra help, they can reduce the amount required. I strongly advise you to consult a mental health professional, in that case, preferably a clinical psychologist, as they are less likely to have ties to the drug companies (ask what association they have, and opt for one who chooses minimal necessary medication).

I would highly suggest talking to a DR. about this. If you are uncomfortable with your current doctor, get a second opinion.

If you don't take the meds, your symptoms can get out of hand and cause you problems.  If you don't like the side effects, talk to your doctor about them.

Is this concesses of one doctor or 3 doctors that you need treatment. If just one doctor and you are not sure get a second and/or 3rd opinion from different doctors. Like lot of medications, once you start taking them and you stop, you may become resistant to these medication in future. If you need to stop medication, only stop taking them afetr you have consulted with your doctor.

well some of the meds treat each of those problems, if you don't take them you risk going into a state of delusions and hallucination, loss of control and confusion.  Not good at all, what are the meds?

the possbile serious side effects could be self harm or harm to others which would increase during a psychotic episode

this part of my opinion will be very unpopular but it is possible to live med free with that diagnosis but can be difficult on you and your family and takes a lot of work and counseling on your part

my husband has been dealing with this since his early teens, he has the same condition as you, and is currently living med free.

however, it took many years of counseling and in and out of mental institutes to reach that point and many years of living in h**l for him

until you know how to deal with your disease the meds are there for a reason
