Can atheists and christians have a reasonable debate and how would we achieve that?

Ok, all I want to do is here some thought on what atheists believe in and share my wisdom of my Faith, which I believe is the only true faith.

I have been fighting with so many people, becaause the percieve me as arrogant. Now, I wonder if it is at all possible for atheists to answer me honestly and share what they belief, and then see my point of view as well without judging me

I will do the same and be objective, however I can not be expected to answer in contradiction to the word of God.

Is this site then even usefull. Is this not a place where we can share our thoughts, or will we always end up insulting each other and get suspended.

  1. Simple -

I do NOT believe in god. Full stop.

Wow, that was an easy debate.

I don't believe because there is nothing to believe, you have been brain-washed i'm afraid. Religion is for the weak minded.

  2. you mentioned in another question your youth pastor.  how old are you?  "share my wisdom of my Faith" where did you get this wisdom? this part of your question shows arrogance.

you don't have to continually say "which I believe is the only true faith."  everyone gets that now.  move on.

try 'what' questions instead of 'why' questions ('why' questions make people defensive).  such as "what factors lead you to become an atheist?"

  3. Your door is shut, by way of saying in pride, this is the only true faith, and in the same verse, you said you think it is right! Pay attention to what you say, your heart is full, but your mind lacks knowledge of him that lives, and then you say you have wisdom? I tell you what I see, the spirit that is in you by way of what you say! The word of God? You better back up, it is all the words, not just one, or has that been stolen from you also? It says be like little children, in others words, realize that you are made in vanity, without knowledge of the words or truth, that is why you were to wait for the sons of God to be made manifest, then you would reconize them by the WORDS that they speak, but your mind is shut up, and you can not hear what is said, you can not see the truth in all the words!

  4. I actually have several ongoing conversations with a few atheists.  Via e-mail.

I consider them civil and will not respond to uncivil e-mails.

This site is a tool and is what you make of it.  JMO

  5. This is not a forum designed to "share thoughts."  It is meant for people to ask sincere questions when they are legitimately looking for answers, and other people are meant to provide information and/or opinions which are relevant and responsive to the question asked.

If you want to have a reasonable chat with an atheist, it should not be through this forum.  Try email, instant messenger, or in-person conversations.  If you want it to be reasonable and civil, it would be advisable not to conduct the discussion in a public forum.

To answer your secondary question, I do not believe in God because I don't need any god to lead a happy and fulfilling life.

  6. You say " I can not be expected to answer in contradiction to the word of God."

And that answers your question regarding "reasonable debate."

  7. Everyone believes their own belief is the one true faith.

There is nothing gained from fighting...it builds walls that never come down.

This site is useful you just have to state what you believe without an attitude.

  8. Sure we can. We just have to respect that the others beliefs are sincerely held even if we don't respect what they believe.

  9. Being that neither side can actually prove their point and it is all a matter of perception I would say 'reasonable' is out of the question.

With that in mind the only way these two could be in a decent dialog would be to 'agree to disagree'.

Other than that they could avoid the subject of religion and science all together.

Religions have come and gone, but humanity still studies the sciences from ancient cultures predating any one religion.

The friction between the two is science. Some religions(christians usually) argue that science is wrong and that we were all created by a poof and a snap, where as science follows the facts (much like in a criminal investigation) to the supported truth.

Unfortunately for the christians time is not on their side. I am sure another religion will arise and, eventually, cause the same or equivalent problems between the two.

The above are usually instigated by charismatic radicals that either have a chip on their shoulder against whatever it is they are preaching against.

I think you can believe in truth and nothing else. What is more pure than the truth?

  10. "Debates" between atheists and Christians last about 5 minutes.

The atheist proves your religion is false, and then you get angry and leave.

  11. Remove the ad homs; that would work.  Its convincing the people that insult rather than attempt reasonable discourse where the problem lies.

  12. Okay...so what's your question?

I don't believe in god. You do, and you seem to think you are married to his 'son.'

OOooookay.....also answering everything using the bible is not 'objective.' I think you need to look up the definition of the word.

  13. Atheists lack belief in gods.

    That's the whole shebang.

  14. You know, the god thing isn't really plausible in my eyes. The book makes me go "lol wut" and the people make me go "wtf".

Hey, I kinda oppose the concept of faith, that's all. We are humans, beings who rely on our logic to make sense of the world... Not doing so will betray us, as human beings.

If there is h**l infernal, I'll gladly suffer in mankind's name.

  15. Sure, if you want to debate mythology.

  16. "....and share my wisdom of my Faith, which I believe is the only true faith"

That'll pretty much be a stumbling point. You can believe anything you want, but it becomes personal when you start saying that you have "the one" truth and that others conversly don't.

  17. There is no reasonable debate between atheists and Christians.. We need evidence, you lack evidence.  Debate is over, time for silly antics.

  18. An honest debate requires evidence and not rhetoric. The theist corner lacks evidence. Supply some and we'll be happy to debate you.
