Can attorneys remove collection items from the credit report? Is it possible to remove a collection item from a credit report in general? Has anyone done this before? Do you know anybody, a good attorney in Illinois who can handle such a case?

  1. Before you sign up with anyone to fix your credit, read this:  http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/cred...

Don't waste money paying someone to fix your credit.  Use the money to pay off your debts.

  2. Not the attorney themself. However, they can request it through the credit bureau that it be removed.

  3. WHY PAY A LAWYER IN ILLINOIS WHEN YOU CAN GO TO LEXINGTONLAW.COM AND ONLY PAY THEM ABOUT 70% LESSER THAN A DIRECT LAWYER. YOUR CASE IS WORKED FASTER THAN IF YOU WERE TO DISPUTE IT YOURSELF. CALL THEM TODAY.

  4. yes

  5. Accurate negative info stays on your credit files...You can't pay an attorney or anyone else to remove accurate negative info. .There is, however, one trick that "may" help to remove negatives from your credit files. You can do this by yourself and you don't have to pay anyone.

Per the Fair Credit Reporting Act you have the right to request written validation of negative entries on your credit files. Per this law they must validate the item(s) within 30 days or remove them from your credit file.

Mail a letter via certified mail with return receipt to all three credit bureaus (Equifax, TransUnion & Experian). Include a photocopy of your driver's license and social security card...If you don't include these, they may write back requesting them, which would slow the process down by several weeks. In your letter, simply state:

Per the Fair Credit Reporting Act, I am requesting written validation of this item.

    --------------------------------------...

Do this one at a time for each negative entry....DO NOT request validation for all items at one time.

There is NO guarantee that this will work....It may give some decent results. The worst that can happen is that all negative items come back verified.

  6. Dont pay an attorney!!!!!! They cant do anymore than you can. All you have to do is dispute the items and if they are not yours they will be taken off, but if the debt is legit and can be proved to be yours then there is not way to get it off without paying the debt off. There is no quick fix, it does take time but if you are diligent enough it will work out just as good.
