Can avi files play on a dvd player?

Hi, I just want to know if a data disk with avi files will play on this dvd player:

According to its specifications it should playback CDs with AVI files encoded with the DIVX codec. So I believe it does play DIVX AVIs.

However, it can also mean that the player only plays DIVX files which are files converted with the DIVX converter using the DIVX codec (www.divx.com).

not too sure but i know tesco are doing one that they say plays all for £28 so i wouldnt pay that much off ebay for one and dont forget if the tesco one doesnt play it as long as you have the reciept and packaging you can take it back.
