Can babies eat Cabbage?

I have an 11 month old and he has lots of food allergies so I have to puree all of his food from fresh fruits and veggies. I wanted to give him a little variety so I thought about cabbage and apples pureed together. But my mother said that she heard that babies should not eat cabbage. Does anyone know?

  1. My neice is almost 1 and she eats cabbage. Well sometimes, other times she spits it out because of the texture. Ive never heard that before.

  2. I'm guessing she's referring to the tendency to get bad gas after eating cabbage.  I think cooking it really well helps with that.

Pureed cabbage and apples sound pretty good, but a stir fry sounds even better.  Does your baby allow you to spoon feed him?  My kids revolted against spoon feeding long before that age, so it was finger foods from then on.  Of course, we didn't deal with any major allergies.

  3. As long as you give it to him in small, bite-size pieces, then i do not see why not. Although, i am no expert when it comes to parenting.

If you are going puree apples and cabbage, then i suggest you check that there are no lumps that he might choke on. I hope he enjoys his new treat.
