  1. It is fine, just buy the plain kind and sweeten it yourself with fruit or applesauce.  You can also add cinnamon and vanilla for a twist.

  2. i give my 11 months old the normal porridge sometimes (started about a couple weeks ago). but i only give her those plain "instant oat" which i believe no add-ons in and easy to make.

  3. Not recommended, there can be hard bits of oat in normal porridge that could stick in a baby's throat, so until your baby grows bigger stay with the baby porridge, its not as good but it is safer.

  4. Oh dear, you've had conflicting replies to your question.  I would consult your GP if you are at all unsure.

My own babies did eat a small amount of porridge, but I cannot remember at what age.  It was certainly filling, and they certainly loved it, but they are grown up now, and I cannot for the life of me remember at what age they started to eat it.

However, they are very healthy and well and fit now, and all grown up.

  5. Normal porridge is normally made with full cream milk that babies should not it

it is quite a worry that people who have given thumbs down might be silly enough to give young babies salt and cows milk maybe they know everything or think they do

  6. Normal porridge is fine. My HV advised ready break as it is finer and you dont have to spend as long making it.

  7. ensure if baby is less than six months that the porridge is made from formula or breast milk

  8. My HV recommended Readybrek for my daughter (10 months) as it is milled a bit finer than normal porridge oats and also it has added vitamins etc.  Unfortunately, she hated it and spat out every mouthful I gave her!  I will try again in a few weeks!

  9. Be very careful you check the contents thoroughly.  Even a small percentage of salt can be harmful to a baby.

  10. sure!!  My daughter ate regular people oatmeal, not the flaky oatmeal baby c**p.

At first I ran the oats through the food processor to make them finer...she didn't like the thick texture at first.

And yeah, you SHOULD make it with breastmilk or formula...not sure why the thumbs down

  11. its too lumpy and large flaked compared to baby porridge (choking risk), it also has more gluten

  12. Depending on the babies age, they can eat most things that they wont choke on. As long as you do the 3 day test - Feed bubs some, then wait 3 days to make sure she/he doesn't have a allergy to the food, then its fine. By 6 months old, my first was eating what we did, I just pured hers.

So, yes, if the baby is a suitable age to eat solids then normal porridge is fine. I would still use breast or formula milk with it though

  13. Yes, babies can eat normal porridge.

Babies can typically eat whatever mom & dad are eating once they're ready for solids.

  14. Of course they can. It's much healthier than the over-processed flakes in the boxes in the baby aisle, too.

  15. Everyone always has something to say when it comes to babies and food....I ask before they had all this jarred and rice cereal c**p what did they feed babies?????  I think whatever they ate.  You know your baby better than any of us alot of its trial and error and commen sense..don't give your baby large chunks of food (duh) Stay away from high allergy foods such as peanut butter or eggs (duh) and give them small amouts at a time(duh)...feed your baby what you want and just use your head
