Question:

Can baby rats have cheese?!

i gave my 2 baby rats cheese and now one of them is sneezin (which is nothing new) but now she has a lot of mucus.... is she okay or should i be worried

  1. Hi,

    I have rats, and occasionally feed them cheese/yoghurt/milk. It shouldn't be a problem, although I wouldn't recommend feeding them a high level of dairy, as they might get a stomach ache, or equivalent.

    I've heard that some rats can be lactose intolerant, though, so you should be a bit careful. But I doubt being intolerant to dairy would be making her sneeze, etc. It's probably just a cold-- rats can get them from people, and if you live somewhere in the southern hemisphere, like myself, it's Winter, and colds are going around. She should get better soon, but if you're worried about it, don't feed her cheese. :)


  2. Cheese wont do that they may have a upper respiratory infection.  Rats can eat cheese as long as they are eating by themselves and the cheese isn't spoiled
