  1. You take them with you until you board and then they put them in cargo.

  2. You gate check the stroller (buy a cheap one in case they break it).

You can take the car seat on the plane IF you've paid for a seat for the baby.  Otherwise you'd gate check it or send it as checked luggage.

    Sorry, I know it sucks.

  3. you need to check your car seat as luggage but it doesn't count against the number of bags you have. The stroller can be taken right up to the plane and they will tag it and stow it under the plane for you and have it waiting for you at the door as soon as you get off again! It's fabulous!

  4. Strollers - not usually, unless its just a really tiny one that folds small enough for the overhead bin (and yes, they do make some of those!) But the car seat you can and should use on the plane, which means you have to buy your child their own seat. Airlines currently allow you to have a child under 2 years old as a lap baby, but even the airline employees will tell you its a gimmick to make money and they don't recommend it. Always buy your child her own seat and bring her car seat and install it on the plane.

There's a link to an article written by a former flight attendant below (flyingwithchildren) with great info on why you should always use a car seat with your child on the plane.

  5. Baby strollers can be taken all of the way to the gate, so your baby can stay in it. You will have to take the child out of the stroller when you go through security, fold it up yourself while trying to hold your child (occasionally a nice bystander will help) and take care of yourself at the same time.

Right when you get to the plane you take the child out and an attendant will tag it for you and they were have it at the ready right when you land. Car seats are allowed on planes but of course you then have to buy a ticket for the seat. If the child is under two then you don't have to buy a ticket, at least usually, and the child can be held in your lap, which is where they want to be anyway. If you child is still an infant I recommend nursing the child or giving it a bottle or sippy cup so as to keep the ear popping down at take off and landing. If they are old enough, give them gum.

If you have the money to, there is a nifty thing I have seen that is a stroller that folds down to a carseat for on the plane, it is expensive though. Oh, and you should not be charged for checking a carseat with your luggage, but it might have changed in the last few months, they are charging for everything lately.

    Good luck!
