My right side lower jaw has a tooth that only has roots and a small piece of tooth left in the gum. The hole area is blackened and I am afraid of dentists as you can tell by my teeth. How can I get this fixed before I am paralyzed for good? what do I tell a dentist so he can help me get through this extreme fear, I mean true fear.

  1. There are dentists who do sedation dentistry. You need to maybe take some medication for anxiety also. No I do not believe that bad teeth cause bell's palsy. Bells Palsy is also not permanent and goes away. Yet bad teeth can cause heart problems and even death. That alone should make you realize you need to get your teeth fixed. Please do some research and find a gentle dentist who can help you.

  2. i was in a similar position and the only thing you can do is very unapologetically walk into the dentist, explain the situation and let him do his thing. he gets paid to work on teeth, not provide commentary or opinions on your previous lack of oral hygiene.....i can assure you he has seen it, or worse, before...it's his job.

get your sh*it fixed before you get an infection in your bloodstream and it kills you. i know what i'm talking about....mine was due to addiction, but no matter the cause had to be fixed and was. don't try to do it all at once....one tooth at a time, the worst to the least.

and no, it won't cause bell's....had that too when i was 16....it's a completely different thing caused by a nerve inflammation in the bundle of nerves that passes through a small hole in the bottom of the ear bone structure. no relation to the problems you are currently experiencing with your teeth...a different set of nerves for different functions....and, you may never regain use of some of your facial muscles...it's the nature of the condition.....mine was (and is) on the left side....i still, 20 years later, have limited function in my eyelids, lips, facial muscles and jaw....i was a 1st chair prodigy on tenor saxophone up until i got bell's and to this day cannot play sax anymore.....i can't tighten the lips around the mouthpiece anymore but at least can drink from a straw or suck on my girl's sweet spot again....for many years after i couldn't even do that and slept with one eye open because it wouldn't close.
