Question:

Can barely sleep - constantly thinking?

I don't know why but ever since secondary school finished i have been having trouble sleeping, i don't feel depressed or angry, upset or confused, I just cant stop thinking about everything. Its as though my mind just doesn't want to stop, and every moment spent asleep is a moment wasted and something tells me not sleeping for periods of over a day is not the healthiest lifestyle option. I just don't know what to do with my self.

I start college in around a week, and i believe being able to sleep might help me in my studies.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide :)

  1. It sounds like mania.  I would get to a psychiatrist and get checked out.

Here are some links about bipolar disorder

  2. Maybe your not in a comfortable sleeping position. That's my problem. I'd stay up the whole night watchinnf bleach, naruto, family guy, american dad, inuyasha, code geass, etc. on adult swim because I couldn't get in the right sleeping position

  3. you may just be nervous about starting a new college.

try taking relaxing candlelit baths and spray some lavender under your pillow, listen to some relaxing music and just let yourself drift off, dont think too much about "I HAVE to go to sleep!" otherwise you'll never be able to.

i suffer from insomnia now and again and this is what i try to remember to do.

good luck and good luck at your college.

  4. What I do when that happens is I think of my favourite wild place, Glendalough, in Co. Wiclow and I imagine I went walking there on a winters day alone and got caught in a storm and I think of how I find shelter in a cave and how I keep warm and build a fire etc and I seem to fall asleep somehow

  5. benadryl , that's the stuff!

I have a allergy to something but if i take one of those before bed every night ,i can sleep for 10 .hours.

If i don`t take one i am up all night watching sky documentaries ,which is quite good though!

  6. I think this happens to everyone once in a while, but something is wrong if it happens for months at a time.  The best things you can do on your own for a problem like this is to stop drinking caffeine, don't eat large meals closer than 3 hours before bed time, don't take naps (at not until things return to normal),  avoid activities that require concentration before bed time, and try exercising enough to wear your self out early in the day.  If you can't get over the problem on your own, you may need to visit a sleep specialist.  On the good side of things, it seems like some college students never sleep anyhow, so you will probably have a lot of company.

  7. I go through times when i have trouble sleeping because i think 24-7 and it helps me to leave the tv on and turned down where i can hear ppl talking but cant really understand what they are saying. that and sometimes i have to take sleeping pills if i go too long with out sleeping.

  8. I'm applying to college and had the same problem, what I did was take a notebook and every night write down what was going through my head. Soon my thought would all be down on paper and I would let the paper carry the weight of those burdens for the night. Good luck.

  9. Some over the counter Benadryl always helps me sleep because no other method that's not medication works for me.
