Can beggars be choosers?

So me an my gf went on a picnic this weekend, and on the way home saw a man asking for money, by the freeway exit. Anyway i didnt have no cash on me so thought i would give him the extra sandwich we had, to my surprise he looked at it and said he don't like ham! guess he was'nt that needy after all. What would you have done?

Beggars cannot be choosers. At least that's what I was raised to believe.

If beggars were choosers, they wouldn't be beggars at all, now would they?

Apparently some can. And some of them make enough money from begging to live quite well. But don't let this incident stop you from trying to help people. Some really need it.

I don't like ham either, but if I were hungry enough I'd eat it.

You did your part. If they were really in need they would just take the food and be happy.
