  1. if you want to be a purist and live like a priest or monk away from everyone yes

  2. yes! what's so great about today's society?

  3. I have no problem isolating myself from certain types of social activiy for prolonged periods of time.  Even years where I enclose myself in my own workshop/thinktank and just practice hatha yoga and meditate without the interference of social activity.

Now you must understand that this does not mean abandon my social responsibities such as those that will make my sojurn into privacy comfortable like the light and water bill, rent and of course nutritional factors which all in some way involve social activity to a certain degree.  I will sojurn into my private individual level of social activity and there remain so as long as my other responsibilities allow.  In other words, I may be able to advance financially the rent and electric and water and nutritional needs enough to create such a state that allows me such freedom from social activity if I must and then if I can stay ahead of it only to submerge myself back into social activity to meet my needs, which also means meet the needs of others who I encounter..

I have been the other way, where I just went off and in the forest spent my time as individual as possible without the worry of social activities such as those encountered in more populated areas where one has to get along with other individuals for natural reasons.  I have never seen an unfriendly monk or guru who cant tolerate the company of others especially when it comes to having to cooperate to acheive certain things.

  4. I never read it but the book "Walden" or walden pond by I think emerson is about his time in the woods & what he got out of that so you might want to check it out & If the info. isn't right it is close a librarian will know. I know I feel better not having to put up with the energy of others but it might just be a phase I am going through.

  5. I suppose anything is possible, but it's probably not probable.

  6. I suppose an advantage would be the ability to think on your own and not rely on media and government to form your think patterns and opinions.

  7. yes, you can save a lot of money that way. :)

  8. It certainly can, for those of us who have social challenges... like some autistic spectrum disorders (e.g. Asperger's syndrome).

  9. I think it can have some advantages, ie, we can learn to think for ourselves, but it can also have alot of disadvantages.

As humans we are social animals, and have to live in some kind of society with 'others' and be able to interact with others. Spending to much time alone, can  take away some of our social skills, (and confidence) that are important in life, and in dealing with relationships which in turn can be deterimental to our growth.

  10. Perhaps, but being disconnected from TV and video games would be a good start!
