I own a peach-faced male lovebird that I've had for thirteen years and I also own a male green cheek conure that I've had for two years. When I first bought my conure, he was very tame and loving. I took him everywhere with me and spent a lot of time with him. I also tried to spend time with my lovebird as well. But suddenly my conure started becoming more aggresive towards me and soon started to bite me. It came to a point where now I can't even touch him without recieving an injury. Is my conure jealous of my lovebird?

  1. Yes, birds can feel jealousy. I have two birds and one of them gets real jealous if I spend time with the other bird.

  2. Your conure has grown up and become sexually mature.  If he considers you a mate, he'll expect certain behavior from you.  As a mated pair, you should unite to repel intruders - like the lovebird.  If you don't, he could bite you because he's trying to drive you away from the lovebird.  This could be a fear that you're in danger, or he could be upset that you aren't holding up your end of your partnership, or both.

See the "bonded biting" section of http://www.parrotfeather.com/lovebird/Lo... (conures work the same way)

  3. Yes, birds do feel jealousy. My chickens can get a little jealous at times.

Humans really underestimate birds. Just look at this Q i asked a while back:

They think and feel to a far larger extent than most humans seem to want to know.

  4. Yes, I give you the biggest yes ever. YES..... LOL  I had a African Gray and then I got a little bird to be his buddy. People say this is a bad idea but i though i would do it. When I did the two became best friends.. Could not part them for the life of me. When I would pick up the little bird the big bird wanted nothing to do with anything but me! and would be mean to his little friend. I say they can because I deal with it ALL DAY LONG!!

  5. yeah, they can deff feel jealous and they will take it out on you, check out http://www.parrotcentral.net for good bird info

  8. Birds do feel "jealousy"...in a different way. They attack their human partner when another bird is in the room to get them out of the "danger" of the other person or bird! Odd, but true! kjl
