Ok, i have been on Ortho cyclen for about 7 years. Then for cheaper purposes,i switched to the generic Mononessa. Well, my pharmacy said they dont do Mononessa anymore so i had to start on another generic called Sprintec. This last switch happened about 2 months ago. Now im itchy! so unbelievably itchy!! I have tiny skin colored bumps on my fore arms and lower legs, and a few on my stomach. They dont look gross, but they itch like a demon!!! Has anyone else experienced this??? i have weeded out everything, my laundry detergent, my soap, my lotion, even my perfume but the itchies are still there. And it seems to come and go, not there all the time. can anyone relate to this or help me in figuring this mess out???? thanks!

  1. Yes, any type of medication can cause rashes, this could also be an allergic reaction. Goto your doctor or pharmacist also, they might be able to prescribe you a different medication, or a cream for this rash

  2. YES, birth control can cause itchy skin. Its part of the bc causing your body to think your pregnant. Some woman experience dry, even itchy skin while pregnant. Bc simply makes your body THINK its pregnant so its understandable that you have some of the pregnancy symptoms.

  3. ok, I don't want to scare you but I looked it up on the web and found this info:

A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing.

And about going off BC after such a long time- I became very moody, worse cramps and heavier flow. So I started on a different pill that works great for me, it's called Trionetta in Norway...

    Best of luck!!!

  4. Itchy skin is usually the first sign of allergic reaction.

Is the "come and go" of the itchiness linked to the timing of the different levels of hormones in the meds?

On second thought ....given that the bumps are not red it makes me wonder if it is really an allergy. Could be a skin infection of sorts.

Have you been exposed to scabies, mites etc.?

    spider bites?

take out the guess work and go to a dermatologist especially given that you have ruled out the obvious culprits (laundry detergent etc.)

  5. You might be allergic to it.

  6. Sounds like you are having an allergic reaction.

    Check with your OB.

If you HAVE to be on BC, maybe they can recommend an antihistamine.

  7. who knows......
