Can birth control regulate your period?

I for three years I had an irregular period, it always skipped a month and I could never predict what day it would land on. My doctor put me on birth control to regulate it and I took them for two years. I got off of them over two months ago. My first period came 5 days late and now this one is 15 days late or if we go off of when my last period was it is 10 days late. My husband and I are trying to conceive. I took a pregnancy test and it came negative when I was 4 days late.

So my first question is does birthcontrol regulate periods?

The second it took my friend a 4 weeks after her missed period before a at home pregnancy test showed up positive. Has this happend to anyone else???

  1. Yes, birth control does regulate your period.

  2. Birth control is suppose to regulate your periods. After a lot of women get off birth control though, especially after taking it for a while, it takes a while for their periods to get back to the way they should be.

However, if it's been 10-14 days since your risk, your test results should be reliable. Keep in mind though, your hCG levels may not be high enough for the test to register them.

Good luck and baby dust to you :)

  3. Yes, it does.

Yes it has.  Her hormone levels were probably too low for the HPT's to detect.  It happens all the time.

  4. BC does regulate your period...and yes it can take a while for the hormone levels in your urine to build up enough to show up on the test...take another!  If you feel that you are pregnant, go to the doc, they can draw blood which is more accurate

  5. They say that birth control is supposed to regulate your cycle, but I took the pill and it did absolutely nothing to regulate me...was the same as before I ever took the pill.

  6. YES BC does regulate your period, I have PCOS, and I was on my period for approximately 8 months straight no break, and my gyno put me on BC, and I went back to normal, took a little while but I'm all better now, I have heard though that if you have to be on BC to regulate your period while NOT TTC, that your gyno. can put you on Clomid to regulate you WHILE TTC, I'm not sure if that's true though, you may want to ask your doctor... and when I was pregnant last I was almost 4 months pregnant before a home pregnancy test worked on me, but by a blood test it was like 3 days after my missed period. Hope this helps!
