Can black (absence of all colours) damage the eyes?

If I set my desktop wallpaper (on the computer) to all black, will this affect my eyes in any way over long term period of time?

I heard somewhere that black could cause eye damage if exposed to it a lot.

Sorry if this is a strange question.

Also, what colour would you recommend as a desktop wallpaper that would be easy for the eyes?

  1. if a child is brought up in a situation where there is a lack of color or light - the eyes will not develop normally. this should have no effect on adults.

  2. No background colour can damage the eyes, some are more comfortable to look at.

People vary as to which colour they find most comfortable. Try a variety of wallpapers to see which one YOU like best.
