Question:

Can blisters on the scalp get infected easily

I burned myself the other day and some of the water ended up on my head(long story). I ended up with blisters that have now popped,I'm worried about the possibility of them getting infected. I don't have a doctor around here, and don't think going to the ER for this is really necessary. Any ideas on how to prevent infection in this area?

  1. I had pretty bad blisters on my head after my hairdresser burnt me in multiple spots with a straightener and they healed fine.  I just washes my hair normally and they healed fine.  I think you should just do what you normally do to your hair and if they start to hurt more or anything then find a doctor to go to.

  2. Broken blisters anywhere  can get infected easily.

Wash the area daily. Apply an antibacterial cream (such as neosporin). Get some nonstick gauze and some medical tape and figure out how to bandage them. I don't know where on your scalp they are, if they're nearer the edges it would be easy to bandage, in the middle it'd be somewhat tricky. Leave them covered during the day but uncover them at night to air them out.

If you see any signs of infection, doctor ASAP. The ER isn't necessary now, but if they get infected, it will be.

  3. Put an antibiotic cream on the sores.  Hair carries a lot of bacteria so I would think it creates a high risk for infection.
