  1. They do bite, and It does hurt..... so you would probobly try not to handle it much so it will not get stressed and well, hiss, snap, or bite....               But, they also can be very good pets too. They are very tame, (atleast they are in captivity), u should register for this, then go to forums , click on skinks, then ask your question and you should a boatload of answers in about an hour.... repticzone.com

  2. Here's a question you should ask yourself before asking anyone if something can bite:

       "Does it have a mouth?"

If you can answer that question, then you have your answer.

  3. The first person is thinking of blue tongue skinks, a completely different animal than what you're asking about. To answer your question, it is just a hard pinch and they don't have teeth. I personally feel it doesn't hurt. They aren't big enough to do any damage. A kid might think it hurts a little, but these are a lizard that doesn't like to be held anyway.

  4. I will not lie to you, yes they can bite, and yes it does hurt. They have jaws that are meant for crushing prey, if you son is very young he could get a good bruise on a finger. However, I have had mine (Yura) for about a year and Yura has only bitten once. There are warning signs to look for, an open mouth and hissing. If he starts to open his mouth towards you, don't put your fingers within reach of his mouth and you should avoid all bites. bluetongueskinks.net is a good site for you to look at for the proper care and diet requirements. My vet told me for better health and to avoid vitamin deficences I am supposed to feed Yura a hopper or pinkie (baby mice) once a week. Yura is an adult, if your's isn't yet an adult I would go with pinkie (smaller) they also need  greens and veggies as part of the diet. I also feed a small amount of canned cat food and other meats for addtional proteins.
