Well, you can, technically.

Something can "come up" and the Vice President could "choose" to step down, aka. the VP is told to step down and they are making an excuse up.

However, it is pretty much a sealed ticket, in my opinion. It would be disastrous for any campaign to switch now. It would question the leadership and decision-making skills of the candidate.

As for the answer below me, no the President can't get removed either unless something happens which would make them incapable of running. They have already accepted their nominations. It is possible, but it would most likely mean a loss was coming, guaranteed.

I would think that there is some way that the ticket could be altered.  But I guess then you could as the same questions about the Presidential candidates.  Could they be removed from a ticket also?
