Can braces affect the way food tastes?

Question

I got braces five months ago (ceramic on top and metal on bottom) and since then, it seems like food has lost a lot of it's flavor. There isn't a metal taste, that is not the problem, the flavor of the food just isn't really there. Has anyone else had this happen? Any idea WHY this happened?

I don't know but I think I remember it used to taste funny when I bit on metal...

yes they do, i got braces 1 year ago and pizza tastes like straight cheese. and when they first put them in my teeth felt like they were about to break. hope that helps

Yes they can! The addition of metal in your mouth affects the chemicals in things you eat.

No the braces will not change the way the food taste.  It just may seem a little bit different because you need to cut the food up into smaller pieces now.  You will be use to them in no time at all!!!  Good luck with the braces and enjoy your new smile!!!
