don't worry i am not feeling suicidal!! this is for a research project at school I have been trying to establish whether an attempted suicide by carbon monoxide could work without being in an enclosed space- so if someone secured a tube from the exhaust through the car window and then sealed up as many holes as possible would they still die or would too much of the gas escape? I have looked at all the other quyestions and cannot work this out so would really appreciate any responses!!! Thanks in advance

  1. I don't think you would die of CO poisoning. CO2 is the most ideal combustion gas, and CO generally only forms when there is a lack of oxygen (it would have to be lacking where your engine intake is) but  it still produces some anyways.

You would most likely die of suffocation from CO2 before anything else.

  2. You would still die and you dont have to close up all of the holes in the vehicle.........

  3. People have different tolerances to poisoning from carbon monoxide depending on weight and respiratory susceptibility. If your vehicle has had its muffler compromised under the vehicle and there is a hole or tear in the undercarriage and you are stationary for a lengthy time, than I would definitely say YES that the probability of death from being overcome from the subsequent concentration of fumes within the vehicle.

  4. Yes, if one did somehow channel the fumes into the car, the car would itself become the enclosed space even if not in a garage, etc.  In fact, like the other answerer said, it would still be fatal even if the car were not completely sealed.  Unless the car windows are all down completely, there is still a chance for enough gases to build up in the car to suffocate.

  5. It wont escape as fast as the inhalation of a person submerge in that setting. It will die. Is not like this is the car is naturally on in an open place where the gas will move around and out of the car, in a close space like a garage has no place to go and begin to get into the car. Is less condensed than the example you gave and you die, so imagine what happen with yours, DEATH.
