Can cars run on moon shine?

Can I replace buying gas with making moonshine and running my car on it? What type of damage would it do to the engine?

  1. Ethanol is what you're looking at. If the engine and fuel delivery system were designed for it then, sure, you could do it. The biggest problem is that you'll consume more energy and/or generate more pollution, producing the alcohol, than you would producing and using gasoline for operating your car. Alcohol doesn't have as much energy potential as the same amount of gasoline therefore you're in a negative production if you use oil or an oil based fuel to distill the alcohol. If you burn wood or coal to produce you're still consuming more energy than you're producing plus adding a huge amount of pollution to the atmosphere. The other shoe is that by diverting all that grain to alcohol production you have cut into the grain supply for the world's food chain. That's one of the main reasons for the high price of food right now. If you're not aware of how much basic food costs have risen in the last six to twelve months then ask your wife, mother or whoever does the shopping for your household.
