i have 2 male completely indoor cats ages 3 and 4. i've had them since birth and they're pretty much your typical lazy house cats. they get along pretty well each other. i live in an apartment. i'm considering getting a guinea pig but i wanted to know how well that would work with the cats. would it be too much? are the cats going to want to eat the guinea pig? anyone have any experience with this?

  1. at least buy the guinea pig a cage and is ur cat friendly

  2. well if the guinea pig lives in your room and you have the door locked and you have a key it is fine if they have the same room no if you have dogs you cant either cats don't get along with any animals really i have 2 and a guinea pig a bird and a dog the animals never get along they have to be separated.

  3. It should work out. Haha if anything I think the cat will be afraid of the guinea pig...

I have 3 guinea pigs and I brought 2 of them to my brother's girlfriend's house, where she has 2 cats, and my guinea pig chased the cat haha... true story i read in a guinea pig book i bought from Petco that cats and guinea pigs get along, but guinea pigs and dogs don't. Give them some time to know eachother, and they won't attack your guinea pigs, trust me

  4. Yes the cats will want to eat the guinea pig, or at least play with him with claws. Cats are predators, guinea pigs are prey animals.

This could be a very stressful environment for the guinea pig, even if he's kept in a cage. If you do get one, absolutely never leave them together unsupervised

  5. if you cage it so the cats can't get in, you may have a chance but keep in mind that cats eat rodents like mice so they will want to go after it!

  6. No they can't live together. Yes your cats will want to eat the guinea pig. It's why I don't keep budgies anymore : (

  7. keep the gp in a room away from the cats.

  8. You need to keep them in seperate rooms. It's best if you can lock the guinea pigs in a room and put a paddlock on the door to the cage as cats can open cages.

Yes, if they get half a chance, they will attack them without a care, but if you can keep them permentaly seperated via shut doors and locks, it'll be fine.
