My kitten has been smothering me for the past seven weeks and I am nine weeks now. My sister told me cats sense pregnancy. Any thoughts on this?

  1. if you're cat tells you that you're pregnant, you're probably going crazy. lol.

    but, maybe who knows

  2. I think so. I have a cat that just rubs herself all over me every morning...she seems to be really friendly with me all the time. Then I have another cat who seems to hate me! I think they know I'm pregnant, and I have read about stories of females having the same feeling as us!

  3. No, they don't even know what pregnancy is.

  4. I've always heard that, and I fully believe it. My cat has been doing the same thing since I got pregnant.

  5. i dnt no

  6. my male cat knew I was preg before I did.  I have heard they can smell the hormones.  He crawled under the blankets in bed and layed on my tummy.  He also made weird meow noises that he never made before.  lol

As I get farther along too, he has been really affectionate which was not like him before.

I think animals and kids are extra sensitive to knowing that stuff.

  7. My cat knows for sure. Especially cats who are female who have mothered kittens. My cat has a huge mothering instinct and definitely  picked up on it when I was preggo. She acts especially sweet and rubs up against my belly and likes laying there. She's very protective and loving towards my kids.

  8. I heard they can. Though they react differently. Some become all protective of Mummy & Growing baby, some become very horrible and jealous. They say animals can sense things we cant, like natural disasters (earthquakes/volcanoes - I remember watching something in Geography once and they were studying the activity of snakes near volcanoes to predict its activity) and all that. My cat terrifies me because we live in quite an old house and he will just stare and follow things that aren't there!!

I dont know if you already know this, but avoid cleaning out kittys litter tray. I would ask your doctor the exact precautions you should take, but I know there are some.

    Congratulations by the way :)

  9. No reason to be concerned. Animals are very sentient, and may be affected by pheromones and other scents that are unique to pregnancy. Just because we don't consciously react to these, it is not unusual for animals to react.

Good luck and congratulations on your pregnancy.

  10. YES!! My husbands cat knew I was pregnant. His never came near me. when I concieved, that cat could not leave me alone..

  11. Well I know dogs can tell when you have cancer. or if you are feeling down. So if dogs can sense feelings, maybe cats can too?

  12. I dont think cats can sence pregnancy at all.

However my cat is all over me now, like he never wanted anything to do with me and now he wont leave me alone.:P

  13. hahaa wen my mum was pregnant with my lil brother the cat wouldnt leave her bump alone !

  14. My MIL's cat tries to scratch the h**l out of me whenever it sees me.  If they can sense pregnancy, they certainly don't care.  At least not this one.

  15. Yes, I think so. I think its cute

  16. its true.

u give off a kind of hormone.

  17. hmmmm

  18. ur cat in heat

  19. I firmly believe animals in general can pick up on stuff like that. My co-worker had this huge hyper dog that would jump on people and run at them, but when he got around me while I was pregnant the first time he was so gentle and sweet. As soon as I came back to work from giving birth however he was right back to pouncing on me. You hear stories about cats sensing when kids arent breathing and such, why not? Your pheromones are different when you are pregnant so your smell would be to.

  20. uh i dont think so

maybe your kitten knows your pregnant rather than sensing that you are

  21. Actually, YES! they can! When i was pregnant with my twins my cat was laying across my tummy as much as possible. Through research, they are able to tell after just one day of s*x.

    hope this helps!

  22. yep i def think so my cat use to lay on my bump and try pat it down

  23. no, that is pure coincidence. there are no recorded studies that would support your theory that cats can sense pregnancies

  24. oh yea. i dont know why but they can def sense it

  25. I think they do.

I have a cat, her name is Fat Louisa, we rescued her from a shelter and she was always a loving cat but, since I found  out I was expecting she has become attached to my hip, ha ha!

She used to sleep on the couch in the living room, now she sleeps at the foot of the bed, by my feet!

    I love it, lol.

I just hope she stays this affectionate even when the baby is born!
