I have a pool and there is major algae in it. We have shocked it three times at one time and there is still no chlorine to be found. So i am wondering if someone could be messing with our pool. Someone has told me that you can put caustic in a pool to take the chlorine out? If you have any knowledge of this i would love it.

  1. maybe it could be the conditioner level is low..without conditioner, the sun can burn the chlorine out in a matter of hours

  2. Always check your ph first!!!! Then check your chlorine.Have you done an acid demand test or total alkalinity test

  3. Where do you get you pool supplies? You can take a sample there and they can make the proper recommendations for you pool. Most outfits will test for free.

  4. Sunlight will very quickly dissipate the chlorine in a pool.  You're shocking it at night, right?  You could easily be out of chlorine by the end of a sunny day.

I don't know of any substance other than sunlight that would take the chlorine out of a pool.

For our pool, we use shock without stabilizers to kill the visible algae quickly, and then chlorine tabs with stabilizers for everyday regular maintenance.  The stabilizers will prevent the chlorine from dissipating so quickly.

    Good luck.

  5. There are a couple things to do. One is to check your conditioner level (it is also called Cyunaric Acid and Stabilizer). The conditioner acts as a sunblock to keep the sun from evaporating the chlorine out of your pool. Also always shock it at night.  Also, if you have algae that could be another reason the chlorine level is always low. The chlorine is getting used up super fast by trying to kill the algae. The best way to get rid of algae is to lower your pH below 7.2 and and use liquid chlorine, use double the recommended dose for your pool (it is usually 1 gallon for every ten thousand gallons).
