I am restoring an old Boat. Can I put a waterproofer paint that is meant for cement walls on my underlayment floor. Its the first layer I will build on. Should I get a oil based primer sealer intended for wood instead, like Behr's no.10? Just trying to cut cost where i can but I want to do it right

  1. If you really want to protect the wood, consider instead getting either West System or System Three epoxy and painting that on the wood.

These epoxies are both formulated specifically for marine purposes but are fantastic for general woodworking, especially for protecting anything that is going to be exposed to the weather. They are great as a glue, but also very good as a protective coating, to waterproof wood.

I rely heavily upon the System Three products, I can't recommend them enough.

You can find them at most shipyards, but thanks to the good ol' internet you can order them online.

  2. As an ex painter and refinisher, Get the first coat right, and then you will never have to worry.
