  1. From raising all kinds of reptiles for years now. My personal choice is to NEVER use a heating rock. They are just dangerous and reptiles can severely hurt themselves on heat rocks. As for heat lamps. I would just use 1 UV bulb that emits both heat and UV light. It makes it easier for the reptile to get what they need as well as it doesn't put a drain on your electricity.

  2. na, they cant sence heat from below, they get burned from heat rocks. stick to just a heat lamp with uvb bulb.

  3. Well, chameleons are arboreal... if he's on the ground standing on the heat rock, something's probably wrong with him. I don't know how safe they are or how well they work, but as your local pet store that specializes in reptiles about heat vines... I've seen them, thought they were neat, but as I mentioned... don't know how safe they are or how well they work.

  4. heat rock is a waste of time and money for veiled chameleon.

They will not understand what's going on and there will be a danger of your cham burning itself.

yes, turn both lights off during nighttime.

unless your temp drop below 60 F at night, you have nothing to worry about. In the wild, veiled cham is known to survive even 50F night temp.

  5. i would not recommend a heat rock although it can be useful as long as its used properly. when you use the heat rock cover it with another layer of something so the reptile is not directly on top it so it doesn't get burned. and for your lights its good to have one side of the tank heated with the lights and the other side along with the water bowl a little cooler in case it should get too hot for it.
