It seems a pity to throw out a lot of these coins if a charity can benefit. Please help. Thanks

  1. The best way to find out if charities can use obsolete coins is to call them and ask them. There may be a slight possibility that these coins could be sold to coin collectors and the proceeds from that could be used to help the needy.Thank you for your kind thoughts.   Walter C.

  2. Chances are a charity would not be able to appreciate the value of collectible coins.

I recommend you have them valued. (Quotes are usually free).

Best sell the coins for cash.

Use the cash to write a cheque to the charity.

    Ask for a receipt.

Claim for charitable donation if you like.

    Gold is USD800+ per oz.

All metals are worth more now than a year ago

Thank God.  Thank You for thinking of others.

  3. Some Charity Shops will accept them, so the next time you go past one go in and ask them.

  4. Ask at the bank they may have a system that would donate these to charities

  5. I believe that old British coins can still be spent in England.  For years you could spend a shilling as 5P.  I think that you still can, but the coins have a greater monetary value to a collector than the equivalent face value.  Old large cents are worth about 5P instead of 1/12th of that which is their monetary value.  A coin dealer will buy the old coins and the money can then be donated to charity.

  6. I collect coins. Let me know what you have and I will buy anything of interest.
