  1. A silkie bantam will incubate any kind of egg you put under them.I love my silkies for that reason. They will also try to care for baby ducks given the chance, but they get real upset when their babies realize they can swim.

  2. Never tried it, but here are my thoughts...

If you don't have an incubator, go for it.

I would use the smallest hen you have, a bantam old english game if you have one, but, of course, you're limited to whatever hen happens to be setting at the moment.

The incubator here is very cheap but the temp is hard to control.

This looks like they are using a styrofoam incubator. Not too expensive and has a thermostat.

  3. When I was growing up my uncle raised and sold quail.  He always incubated the eggs because they had to have a constant heat source.

This is the extent of my quail hatching knowledge.

  4. idk

  5. yes, but not lay them.

It doesn't matter what the heat source is as long as its warm.

  6. Yes of course they can . .  done it many times

.. like someone said it doesn't matter the source of heat . .   etc which is really useful when you have eggs say from a duck but she wont hatch and suddenly you get a hen hatching . .  the hen is your answer unless you have an incubator ..

i mean just a few weeks back my RIR (rhode island red) hen hatched out 8 ducklings for me sucsessfully!
