  1. Yes, it can tarnish, but wearing perfume, lotion, hair products, sweaty skin and if sterling silver is exposed to the air and left unprotected when not being worn, tarnish is inevitable.

Before you put on any jewelry, be sure any lotions and/or perfumes have absorbed into your skin; and apply your hair products also before you put on your jewelry. Always remove your jewelry before swimming, at the gym/ workout and before bed.

Never use tissues or paper towels- these products will scratch your sterling silver jewelry; use either a old t-shirt or a jewelry cloth that is dual-sided (the inside is rough for cleaning off the dull residue and the outside cloth is for buffing); after jewelry is wiped clean, store it in an air-tight container, such as a zip-lock baggie with a anti-tarnish paper, a cloth band and/or an air-tight jewelry box. Be aware of containers/ boxes that may contain sulfur, it can also tarnish.
