Can condo associations prohibit satellite dishes

i read somewhere online (written in legalese) that a condo association cannot prohibit the installation of satellite dishes---

I am trying to find out if this is true--I need a good source

  1. I live in Manhattan and it is illegal to put a satellite dish on my building.


  2. They can and some do prohibit satellite dishes.  It would be in the by-laws.

  3. I am pretty sure that condos have a right to install a satellite dish. Exactly where you would install it, I don't know.  Perhaps on a balcony or lanai.

    Check with your local congressman.

    My homeowner's association's covenants forbade installing any sort of antennae on our home, but we wanted a small satellite dish.

    To forbid this is in conflict with our right to access the airwaves for information.  I believe it was in 1996 here in Florida.

  4. condominiums may restrict satellite dishes except only dishes that are installed within the boundaries of a unit or in the owner's limited common elements.
