Can contacts last in water overnight?

Im at my dads and dont have any solution. Can I put my contacts in the case with just water? Will they still be okay in the morning?

No, I think they soak up water. What i did with mine was put them in the case without anything in it. They were obviously dried out in the morning, but I just put them in soloution when I got home and they were back to normal in about an hour.

Yes, but you should get them into saline solution ASAP. Causes a white blur and a bad sting if inserted into the occular area. I would advise not to do this.

Most gas stations have small bottles of solution if no stores in the area are open.

just sleep in em...  just went to the eye doctor monday and he told me my eyes were in amazing shape, which kinda surprised me b/c i havent taken then out in four months...  apparently it makes your eyes more resilient =P

I have done this many times, when no contact solution was available. Make sure you cover them completely with water. You can put them in the next morning with no problem, but do use solution as soon as possible to clean them.

won't be ok...the water might have minerals that could damage the contacts.. also, theres this parasite that can survive in tap water that can attatch itself to ur contact lens, and if it gets in your eye, it just eats it up slowly and you become blind.

NOOOOO!!!  don't do that  you need to put them in the solution c**p. if you put them in water they will be ruined.  if you only away for a couple days then you should just keep them in and tough it out  i've kept mine in for 4 days in a row once and i was pretty ok  they got really annoying in my eyes tho  and then i needed to keep them out for about 3 days.

yes, if you have nothing else just put them in room temp water, you could even put them in a cup. they should be ok, as long as they dont dry up.

No, do not put them in water.  The solution you buy is not just water.  Plain water will wreck contacts.  Worse comes to worse either leave them in your eyes overnight or take them out and use glasses.

I don't recommend it, but I've done it. (In retrospect, it would have made more sense to just sleep with the things in and gotten solution first thing in the morning.)

I used that distilled water you get at the store that tries to convince you its soooo much better than normal water, and I didn't have a problem with it. The contacts felt a little dry/weird the next morning but that went away soon enough.

The solution you soak your contacts in contains substances besides water (just as your eye/tears do - salt, for example); they are hypotonis to water. This means there is less water by volume in your contacts than in the water, and so your contacts will absorb water to equalize this (diffusion [osmosis] at work). Thus, your contacts feel funny when you put them in in the water. Your water-soaked contacts will be hypertonic to your tears (your tears contain less water than than your contacts will at this point). Give it time and the solution in your contacts will become isotonic (equal/balanced - there will be no net movement of particles) to the solution in your eyes (your tears). Basically. I'm not very good at simplifying it. My apologies for any errors/misleading explanations; I'm just going on what I retained from Biology 12 and trying to transfer what I remember about diffusion to contacts in water.

no i have contacts and ive tryed that...they shrivle up a tiny bit and are un wareable the next day

no they wont maybe if theyre hard contacts but if theyre soft they will be a greenish yellow tomorrow i would try it. its best if theyrre soft to leave them in your eyes
