Can cops give racing tickets without pulling you over?

Question

Heres the situation, I was going home on the freeway and my friend and I decided to test our cars. We started going at it for a little bit and I pulled a good deal ahead but then behind me a light flashed and I knew i was scrwed, but then the cop trailed me for a few seconds ( I was going about 95 at this time) with his side light on and then he got off the freeway. At first i was like wow i just got so lucky but then I found out he did the same to my friend.

Was he writing down our license plates or was he just trying to get us to slow down? Ive heard of racing tickets before but usually the cop pulls over one of the two so I'm not too sure what just happened. Thanks for any input.

yup yup, they can mail it if they catch you licencs plate, just like running a toll booth

sounds to me like yoo got lucky unless yoo get a ticket in the mail .school bus drivers can give tickets without pulling yoo over they just write down yor license plate ,date ,time and cross streets . they do this when yoo dont stop for the little stop sign they pull out!!!  i think the cop gave yoo guys a chance (its known to happen)!!!

I would say that you need to keep a close eye on the mail and be waiting for your surprise that you are a winner.

If he was on another more urgent call, he could have taken the information, and you could have 2 tickets coming in the mail, one for racing, or one for terminal stupidity.

You may get lucky, and not get the ticket in the mail, but, if so, you will be on a watch list, and get nailed good when another officer spots you doing anything, I mean anything, illegal.

He was probably close to the end of his shift so he let you go but wanted to scare you so you would slow down
