Can cops take your money when they pull you over?

Serious answers only please!! My bf has a drug problem and he was pulled over today and the cops found weed and money they took them both andthen tried to make him "snitch" on other people and to him he needs to come by the station and go Thur an evaluation?? How can they take him money??? He works for that money we have bills..... i know you are all thinking OMG why are you with some who has a drug problem but I want to let you know that no one is perfect and i have problems too... I am just looking for some advice!! Thank you all for your help!!

Well in mexico the cops are so corupted that they pull you over and demand money otherwise you will be given a ticket. The crazy thing is that you dont have to do anything wrong.

If the officer suspects the money is tied in with the drugs, it can be confiscated. It is logged into evidence, and the court decides if it gets returned.

If it doesn't get returned, it is placed in the department's general fund and is used for their drug program.

Yes they can, if they suspect that the monies found were gotten while selling drugs.

Well yes a Police Officers can take his money if drugs or possible drug activity is involved. And also he will never get his money back due to the drugs. It will go to the city you're best bet is to get him a lawyer.

Well if cops think that its criminal money they'll take it.  Since Weed was found on him, its possible that he hustled for it and it made money or its money to buy illegal drugs.  That would be considered dirty money.  So cops have the right to take it.  I'm not assuming he hustled for it but the cops probably do.

Once a person is arrested for drugs which appear to be more than just for personal use, yes, they have a right to use the money as evidence that he may also be selling drugs.

Maybe it is stupid for weed to be illegal. I mean people are doing the same as when beer was illegal, except maybe its a little bit less of a big deal to people who don't do drugs. :l

Yes, legal. Officer found drugs and money together, what is he to suspect? You can try and retrieve your monetary funds back from the jail and or court, but the burden of proof would fall on you to prove it is not ill-gotten loot. Good Luck!

Meth is not a typical problem.  Everyone has problems but someone who is a meth addict has REAL problems.

I'm thinking they took the money because they figured it was linked to sale of drugs.  I'd be more concerned about your boyfriend's drug habit and the money he spends on that than this situation....
