  1. Depends on the department. There are few metro departments that allow all black athletic shoes and they just look terrible. My department requires black boots. However, there are many modern boots that look like a boot just fell and weigh as little as a pair of running shoes. So you can get performance and appearance.

  2. Generally not - they usually wear boots, as they give some ankle support.

Running shoes might be used on bike patrol or for undercover/vice work.

  3. No it isn't an approved item an officer can wear usually it is some type of black boot they don't wear sneakers.

  4. NO, Next?

  5. It all depends on the Department. I've seen some wear athletic shoes while on Bike patrol. I wore boat shoes while on Marine patrol. In general for street use, boots are best but some Departments just say "Black Leather" that can be polished. They make a lot of shoes nowadays that look like dress shoes but are more comfortable to wear than sneakers.

  6. Yes they can, it all depends on the division they work in.  For instance, bike patrol, under cover, detectives, etc..................

  7. Not while they're in uniform; but when they are on duty in plain clothes then yes.

  8. The uniform and dress code is established by the department, so you answer may vary. Our policy requires plain black footwear. You could wear a pair of black athletic shoes, but no one does.

You spend very little time running, so they serve little purpose. You need something that has more support, and a stiffer sole to make it through a 12 hour day.

  9. I don't think so, pretty sure they have a dress code which does not include running sneakers.
