Question:

Can cornmeal be eaten straight form the bag?

I bought a bag of Goya Enriched Yellow Corn Meal. It says precooked, and it's finely ground (finer than sugar but coarser than flour). Planning to mix 1/3 cup of it into a weight gainer shake with natural peanut butter, raw egg whites, milk, and some other ingredients.

I'm wondering if this is easily digestible, and if it's a good or bad source of carbs.

  1. Precooked cornmeal or "arepa" isn't dangerous if eaten in flour form in small amounts with lots of liquid. I'd try way less than 1/3 cup per cup of milk, though; I'd suggest two tablespoons at first, then if you don't have any bloating go up to three. More than that and the cornmeal might absorb too much liquid in your stomach, which could cause bloating and pain and possibly constipation.

If you add more than a spoonful of peanut butter you should increase the milk, since peanut butter is a thickener.
