Can cough syrup heal a cold?

Is it the cough syrup (meds) or is it just our own immune systems?

It's your own immune system. Anything over the counter only helps mask the symptoms to make you feel more comfortable. In fact, recent studies have shown that cough syrups can actually be dangerous for pediatric patients.

You have to stop your sinusses from dripping into your lungs to prevent a secondary problem.  The cough syrup is there to get the flem out of your lungs because of the nasal drip.  I would suggest to get some sinus medication to dry up the sinusses and cough syrup.  Alot of people are under the impression that cough syrup's function is to stop coughing.

Its definitely not a healing agent, and if anything is just counteracting whats already there. Its your own body that really does the work.
