Yes, crop circles can be a hoax...there are groups who have come out admitting that is what they do

They are a hoax. Many people have come out and admitted to making them, and there was even a TV special where five MIT students showed how easy it is to make them. Doug Bower and Dave Chorley are thought to be the first creaters of crop circles and they also showed how to make the designs quickly overnight.
