  1. a nursery school follows the public school board calander...so you get summer off, christmas break, march break....

  2. If it is a privately owned facility they can take breaks like regular schools or even more. Depends on what your contract with them says (how many days a month they have to be open).

  3. It depends on the daycare. Parents are in need of childcare year round. Some day-cares arrange for substitutes to come in and take over while teachers are on break. If you are talking about a home daycare then if you give parents a notice in advance they will make other arrangements. This usually helps, especially if a break is needed from the little darlings.

If it is a preschool setting then they usually follow the schedule of the public school.

  4. some take vacations, it's up to the owner...

  5. I would imagine it is always best for a caregiver to have breaks and more than one a year. Burnout on any job can happen. Usually in day care center they have times where they bring in a substitute when an employee takes time off. Or if it is a home daycare they need to have it in their contract as to the dates they plan to take off. Then parents can make other arrangements. Many parents have an idea or have arrangements made in case they would need daycare if there was a reason their usual center or home is not open. Seems wise to me.

  6. I suppose they can... Generally they dont. They would get more buisness if they stayed open. If its a small private home center then I guess that they could but it could still hurt their buisness unless they are really close to their families and all.

  7. not usually - workers can take breaks - but not the daycare.  Families rely on the daycare too much.

  8. Yes, but they should have it in their contract or handbook and remind the parents well before hand.

  9. It depends on the owner. Some centres decide to take two weeks vacation in the summer time which means that if the staff who choose to take these two weeks will be paid for the time. If the staff choose not to take those two weeks and take vacation another time then those two weeks will not be paid for.

Again it depends on the owner. Most daycare centres usually let the staff decide when they want their vacation time.
