Can deaf people hear their thoughts? I asked my friends that and said good question?

  1. It depends on whether or not the person was born deaf. If they were, then no, they do not think in 'words' as hearing people know them as they have no idea what they sound like.  It's strange to think about, but a person born deaf actually has no concept of sound outside of whatever muffled noises their stage of deafness allows them to hear. The part of the brain involved in hearing actually breaks down, and the part associated with languages changes to get closer to the part associated with hand movement (sign language). Helen Keller said that she though in impressions. When she felt sun, she didn't think 'sun' like we do. She had instead a mental impression, much like how you can't really describe the feeling of a warm bath or a good hug, just remember the impression of it.
