  1. That's what E85 is, denatured alcohol.  The only reason they mix gasoline with the ethanol is to make it denatured also known as undrinkable.  With gasoline in it, it can be used a motor fuel.

    This is done because ethanol is the alcohol in bear, whiskey, moonshine etc.  If it is drinkable it could be used as an intoxicating beverage.  This falls under the tax structure for alcohol and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.


  2. Randy is incorrect.  Denatured alcohol is a mixture if ethanol and METHANOL.  Hence the name "DEnatured" E85 is gasoline and EHTANOL.  Methanol is far more corrosive than ethanol and will eventually cause fuel system damage.  Injectors and fuel lines/pumps are EXPENSIVE.
