  1. No. Bipolar disorder is caused by a chemical imbalance in your brain. Untreated depression can not lead to bipolar disorder but can lead to other serious issues such as self injury and thoughts or attemptive suicide. You should see a doctor and treat your depression.

  2. It is very unlikely that clinical depression will turn into Bipolar. But Bipolar can appear to be just depression, until the Manic state is experienced.

  3. It is not likely. However Bipolar is usually diagnosed and treated as depression first and sometimes actual bipolar disorder is not diagnosed for a long time. Who the h**l goes to the doctor for being too damned happy. Antidepressants can precipitate a manic phase of the disease but not unless the disorder is already there. If it truly is unipolar depression and the person does not have underlying bipolar disorder it will not turn into bipolar disorder.

  4. No.   If it is bipolar but only depression end of it has been experienced,  it will eventually become apearant whether or not its treated.  If it is just depression, it will not change to bipolar because of not being treated.  But it can very likely become more severe.

  5. Untreated depression leads to more untreated depression and unnecessary pain in life.  See a therapist and/or a doctor and get some help because you don't have to continue to feel this way.

Bipolar disorder often first appears as recurring depression in the teens or twenties.  Afterwards comes the first manic episode, at least that's the way it goes mostly.  Sometimes it is treated as depression for a long time.  Sometimes the first antidepressant flips the person to mania.  (People with bipolar usually don't do well on antidepressants whether it is that they don't work, stop working, or cause a manic episode.)  Anyway..... the bipolar was always there.  The manic half of the mood disorder was just waiting to show.
