Question:

Can depression not really show up in your life until later?

I've been feeling a little more low that usual; I know depression runs in my family but usually with the males, not females. I'm in my late 20's and wondering if my "feeling the blues" a bit more harshly then ever before is due to genetics or just life circumstances. Is it possible to start to develop clinical depression later on in life even though I've never had problems before?

  1. Clinical depression, major depression situational, major depression recurrent, bipolar disorder, dysthymia, etc. can occur at any time in life.  Certainly life circumstances can trigger depressive episodes.

We do not know that all depression is caused by genetics or an inherited tendency to have depression.  If your depression is interfering with your work or relationships, you know of course that you need to seek help.
