    Which may be linked to several instinctive parts of survival.

    "I need those clothes or I will die"

    (literally- clothes=heat=survival)

    today can be 'translated' into

    "I 'need' those jeans cos they're awesome"

    Clothes, for example, may be linked to attractiveness and self image- Which may be linked to confidence.

    Confidence and self image may be linked to attracting the opposite s*x, which unconsiously is linked to sexual reproduction.

    Which is, the main driving factor in the instinct of all creatures.
