  1. work on cardio

  2. One idea...Find an instructor and learn  the best way to paddle a kayak. Chances are you are using your arms to paddle with. A better method uses the torso. Check some kayakers, they often have very narrow waists. A result of their stroking technique.

  3. paddle with your torso instead of your shoulders and by that i mean use your body like a rubber band twist your torso and let it unwind beause your body is much more stronger than your arms hope this helps it did for me shout back if that helps keep the hairy side up

  4. Hi Benedict,

I'm going to start by assuming that if you know how many pull ups you are probably working out and have some cardio stamina.

Kayaking and pull-ups utilize different muscle groups.   When kayaking, a proper stroke isn't about big biceps and triceps-- it's about torso rotation, and utilizing your core.    Your core muscles are very strong, and will have much more endurance.   Men tend to bicycle their arms in kayaking, and end up relying on their upper body strength - so you're not alone in doing that.  Women don't have that upper body strength, and find ways to use their core more readily.

Grab your kayak paddle  as you would when paddling.  Hold it up in front of you - at the same height as your shoulders.   Your arms should extend straight out from your shoulders, bend at a 90 degree angle, and from the elbow, your forearms extend forward to the paddle.

If you visualize the space made by your arms, chest, and the paddle - it should be a rectangle.    This is referred to as the paddler's box.  Keep this basic structure in place throughout each stroke.  How can you do that?  Twist at the waist.

There are some great videos that will teach you the nuances of an efficient forward stroke, and there are lots of resources online.  But, if you simply think about what I desribed above, and focus on your abs, your endurance will improve.
