Can doctors perform cataracts surgury on both eyes @ the same time, or is it just 1 @ a time??

  1. Surgeons can perform cataract surgery on both eyes at the same time but do not choose to, in the US at least. The reason is due to the risk of infection. Even though the risk is small, if an eye threatening infection occurs, isn't it better to have only one eye involved rather than potentially both eyes?


  2. They can but prefer not to due to the risks that could occur as a result of this operation. My mother had cataract surgery and she only had one eye done at a time.
