  1. They are not on the list of those dogs most commonly found to have diabetes, but it could be.  You need to get him to the vet for a definite diagnosis and treatment. -!-

  2. I don't know if those are symptoms of diabetes, but yes cats and dogs can have diabetes.

  3. Yes, dog's can definitely develop diabetes. I do not want to suggest what I believe your dog may or may not have since I am no Veterinarian. I would get your dog looked at to determine otherwise. Good luck!

  4. Yes, dogs can get diabetes, and yes you have reason to be concerned. While it may not be diabetes that's causing your dog's behavior, it's still worth getting him checked out. I would schedule an appointment with your vet.

  5. dogs do get diabetes and take him to the vets if you are worried

  6. Yes, dogs can have diabetes. You need to get him checked by a vet to rule out any problems.  I would also recommend getting his thyroid levels checked.

  7. Yes dogs can get diabetes and yes those are the symptoms. He is pretty young to have it, but that said I myself have been diabetic since I was 2.

I would take your dog to the vet and get a blood panel done. It will either put your mind at rest or enable you to start treatment rigth away if he is diabetic.

  8. They most certainly can & do. You apparently know your dog well & that's a good thing. I have never heard of a young dog being diabetic- it usually occurs in elderly dogs. It is summer time & Pyrenees have thick coats of hair so he may be hot & trying to cool off b/c dogs don't sweat like we humans do. As far as him not gaining weight, he's a very young dog & quite active I imagine. When was the last time you had him at the vets? You may want to take him in for his yearly checkup. If he's active & happy then chances are he's fine.

  9. Absolutely, and the drinking lots of water is of a major concern as this is also the first sign in humans, so get him to the vets asap!   Hope he's ok, goodluck! :)

  10. Think diabetes is just for us people? Think again. Canine diabetes mellitus (also known as sugar diabetes) is on the rise. Whether the numbers are due to an increase in dog obesity or better screening is up for debate. What's clear is that this disease is fairly common. But the good news is, it's also treatable and manageable.

As with humans, diabetes means the body isn't producing enough insulin. Insulin is critical to allow glucose--a simple sugar from food--to pass into the body's blood cells, where it's used as fuel for metabolism. Too little glucose in the blood cells is obviously a problem.

  11. Yes dogs can get diabetes but not normally so young and not normally in dogs that aren't obese.

It can also be a sign of kidney/liver issues. Or could be as simple as the food he is eating is causing it.

Best to take him to the vet to have it checked and see if there is an underlying issue.
