Can dogs have nightmares?

im sitting next to my puppy and hes sleeping and doing alot of moaning type stuff and moving around.. i was wondering if he could have nightmares

  1. They do have dreams and nightmares.My 4 year old husky mix will kick her feet like she's running after a opsum or a rabbit. It's kind of funny actually.

  4. Yes they dream...just softly touch him and he will wake and go back to sleep.

    i have to wake her up if she's sleeping with me because she's all over the place.

  8. He's dreaming.  My dog does it all the time and I love to watch him.  He will run, yelp, bark, groan, growl, twitch, you name it, he's done it.

  9. Probably, dogs do dream.  My little guy whimpers and kicks his feet.  Once he barked himself awake and then started looking around for where that bark came from.

  10. Yeah! My lab have nightmares :( She shakes her paws and kind of breathes heavily. Then I have to wake her up. Well yeah dogs can have nightmares, along with cats just like people!

  11. I often see that kind of behavior from my border collies on nights when we have gone to sheep herding class.
